We have established various strategies in order for us to reach our objectives.

• To refrain from manipulating the natural breeding habits of the SA Boergoat. We want the natural cycle of the Boergoat to dictate our breeding season as we believe that this strategy is friendlier to breeding ewes. Our lambing percentage goals are also more easily reached in this way. This strategy also ensures that older ewes will breed more effectively when sold to our clients, who then also benefit.
• We select performance-tested animals that are:
  • fertile,
  • large framed,
  • hardy,
  • comply with breed standards,
  • have good mothering abilities,
  • have good temperaments.
• Size and growth rate is extremely important to us here at Nell Boergoat Stud. Animals should be able to obtain their target weight easily on natural grazing.
• We aim to supply our clients with performance-tested animals. We look at current performance and performance of the mothers and sires in selecting our Boergoats.
